Your kindness and generosity have not gone unnoticed, and we are truly grateful for creating a fun-filled event for the BIJS community.

Would also like to thank our highly dedicated PTA Board: Mr Sankalp, Mrs Sanan, Mrs Onyinye, and Mrs Jane. We must also acknowledge the contribution and give thanks to our Events Committee parent volunteers who have spent countless hours planning, running about, and creating all these fantastic decorations to make us feel we’re in an indoor garden: Mrs Yara, Mrs Naro, Mrs Seneesha, Mrs Deema, Mrs Tolu, Mrs Rita, and Mrs Uwana (apologies if I missed anyone).

I am privileged to be a part of a school where parents and staff work together to create lasting memories for the children. Thank you for your energy, passion, and enthusiasm. In particular, I’d like to name Mrs Tobi (our Arts Teacher) for working hard on the decorations, Mr Joshua (PE Teacher) for organising the games, Mr David (Acting Assistant Head) and Mrs Funbi, KS1 Leader for hosting the event, and Miss Monalysa and Mrs Dolapo, our bubbly Year 1 Teachers for always entertaining us with their class dance.

This event was successful due to the dedication and hard work of people like you. I am happy to say the event was extremely well-attended by our parents, caregivers, students, and friends. The community came together to enjoy our exciting day.

We feel confident that by making our children happy at the end of the term through such activities in school, they’ll remain energised about learning, thus creating brighter futures for families.

I offer my sincere appreciation and thanks to all those who give freely and abundantly their time and energy.

Enjoy a wonderful break, and happy holidays!

Halloween /halloween/ /halloween/#respond Mon, 31 Oct 2022 19:38:00 +0000 /?p=4013 Our PTA have been very busy preparing for the Halloween event (Monday, 31st October 2022) to ensure the kids have a fun-packed spooktacular day to remember.

The plan for the day is as follows:

– PTA will decorate the Reception area, Hall and corridor leading to classrooms.
– Children will come dressed in their Halloween costumes.
– There will be a photobooth outside the hall so kids can have fun with each other taking pictures. Parents can take photos with their children in the afternoon.
– Classes will hold as usual until 1pm.
– At 1.00 pm kids will start 鈥渢rick or treat鈥 from classroom to classroom, starting with the Pearl Class. Teachers will give out the sweets. To make it interesting for the kids, teachers will ask them a riddle, tell a joke, show off a skill or do a party trick.
– At 2.00 pm kids will assemble in the Hall for the costume parade. Parents are invited to watch and applaud them (parents, please be seated by 2.00 pm for the parade).
– All kids will get the chance to show off their costumes. Each class will be called to the stage, and each child will step out to show their outfit.
– Each class will vote for their favourite costume, and winners will be announced in the assembly. Winners will be given a prize (educational prize).
– Children should come with a donation of N1,000 in cash on the day.

Prizes will be awarded for the best fancy dress costume in each year group, plus there will be prizes for Parents and Teachers who join in the fun.

We thank everyone involved and look forward to a fantastic day as a school community.

World Teachers’ Day /world-teachers-day/ /world-teachers-day/#respond Wed, 05 Oct 2022 19:25:00 +0000 /?p=4007 On World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate the commitment and capacity of our educators to change lives for the better.

Teachers are mentors and role models to their students. They influence young minds and teach sound social and moral values through word and deed, within and outside the classroom. Teachers impart learning and thinking life skills to students to develop their full potential and enable them to seize opportunities in the future.

We, the teachers of BIJS, pledge that:
– We will be true to our mission to bring out the best in our students.
– We will be exemplary in the way we conduct our duties and responsibilities.
– We will guide our students to be good and useful citizens.
– We will continue to learn and pass on the love of learning to our students.
– We will win the trust, support and cooperation of parents and the community to enable us to achieve our mission.

“Today, on World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate the critical role of teachers in transforming learners’ potential by ensuring they have the tools they need to take responsibility for themselves, others, and the planet. We call on countries to ensure that teachers are trusted and recognised as knowledge producers, reflective practitioners, and policy partners.”

Ms Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO

Happy Teachers’ Day, everyone!

Sincerely,
Ms Manda
Head of School

Nigeria Day /nigeria-day/ /nigeria-day/#respond Sat, 01 Oct 2022 19:24:59 +0000 /?p=4004 Culture is a way of life, and Nigerian children are the country’s future.

It would be lovely to have our pupils showcase the various ethnic groups to teach them about unity in diversity as we celebrate Nigeria Independence Day!
Please help the school make Friday, 30th September an unforgettable day by sending your children in traditional attire to school on that day.
We will kick-start the day with a whole-school assembly and class presentations.
The celebration will continue throughout the day with various activities, including a treat for the children. Our photographer will take pictures, and we shall share them on ClassDojo.

Thank you for your continuous support, and look forward to celebrating the Independence Day.

eBooks /ebooks/ /ebooks/#respond Tue, 27 Sep 2022 19:21:57 +0000 /?p=4001 We have created logins for children to access the British ‘Oxford Owl’ library, where they can access over 100 ebooks to practice reading.

If you can encourage your child to read for pleasure, they will reap the benefits. It might not seem like an essential task, but research shows that reading for pleasure can be directly linked to children’s success throughout school and even into adulthood.
Reading for pleasure opens up new worlds for children. It allows them to use their imagination to explore new ideas, visit new places and meet new characters. Interestingly, reading for pleasure also improves children’s well-being and empathy. It helps them to understand their own identity and gives them an insight into the world and the views of others.

I’ll share the login details on each class page shortly.

Happy reading!
